From CREI Ven to Kiwa Creiven
Origins
CREI Ven was founded in 1995 as a not-for-profit consortium under private law by a group of leading companies in the Veneto region, with the benefit of an active collaboration with the University of Padua, with which it was able to pursue its original primary objective: the provision of industrial research services to the business world.
Already in the early years, the Electromagnetic Compatibility Laboratory was set up in the wake of the new EMC Directive, which came into force in 1996. CREI Ven thus represented one of the few and most successful consortium models of interaction and collaboration between universities and industry.
In 1997, the Chamber of Commerce of Padua and the Research Consortium of Padua joined the consortium, making it a mixed public-private consortium.
As time went by, the activities were increasingly focused on laboratory services, which met with growing interest. Initially aimed at its own members, the services provided by the company were later extended to third parties through its transformation into a consortium company in 2002. Under the name of CREI Ven (Centro Ricerca Elettronica Industriale Veneto S.c.a.r.l.), the characteristics of the company remained unchanged from the beginning of the 2000s until October 2020, when the Kiwa Italia Group took over the majority of the company.
Development and Accreditations
Since 2000, the laboratory has been a member of the ACCREDIA accreditation scheme, with the aim of providing the best quality guarantees for its measurement services. This was followed by the safety assessment of electrical products, domestic appliances and information technology equipment.
Growth continued over the years, and in 2011 CREI Ven joined the IECEE ("CB Scheme"), initiating a new phase in the company's development, offering certifications for the export of products to various countries around the world. The company also began to certify certain types of products for the US and Canadian markets.
In the same years, CREI Ven also began to operate in the renewable energy and radio products sectors, expanding into a second location in the industrial area of Padua, entirely dedicated to the performance of safety tests on electrical products and tests on renewable energy generators.
The historic site is now entirely dedicated to electromagnetic compatibility and radio testing, with the same layout as before. The laboratories currently occupy a total area of 1600 square metres, with an adjacent logistics area for the handling and storage of goods.
