One of the key factors is identifying an accurate baseline of “normal” energy usage and/or our typical CO2 emissions. Often schemes kick-off using best guess figures only to realise that an accurate baseline is a prerequisite to subsequent reliable assessment of energy reduction measures.

Since standard emission factors relate energy consumption to CO2 emissions, it pays (in more ways than one) to measure the amount of energy used as accurately as possible. Remember the old adage “You cannot control what you do not measure”.
