The Kiwa UK Regulation 4 Product Approval Scheme (KUKreg4) provides an alternative to the established way of demonstrating compliance and traditional methods of obtaining approvals and certificates.
Who's it for?
KUKreg4 was created for manufacturers and distributors of sanitary and plumbing products and components intended for installation in the UK who require their products to be compliant with UK Water Regulation 4.
What is KUKreg4?
Developed by Kiwa Watertec, KUKreg4 allows you to demonstrate compliance and is accredited to ISO/IEC 17065. It covers a wide range of products, including sanitary tapware, pipes and fittings, valves, appliances, catering equipment, and WCs, with two conformity attestation levels to suit your business needs.
All testing is controlled and conducted within the Kiwa laboratories, that are ISO/IEC 17025 accredited by UKAS, RVA, Accredia.
We offer two distinct levels: Level 3 and Level +1.
Why it Matters
The Importance of Water Supply (Water Fitting) Regulations
The Water Supply (Water Fitting) Regulations are essential for public health, safeguarding water supplies and promoting efficient water use within premises across the UK.
These regulations set legal requirements for the design, installation, operation and maintenance of water fittings, systems, and appliances. Their primary aim is to prevent the contamination of drinking water and to avoid misuse, waste, undue consumption and erroneous measurement (Reg 3.(2)).
Water Regulation 4
UK Water Regulation 4, part of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, ensures that all water fittings supplied by a manufacturer meet appropriate quality and standards. Specifically, Regulation 4(1)(a) requires that water fittings be suitable for their intended use and comply with applicable requirements.
This regulation is crucial for maintaining the safety and quality of drinking water in the UK.
Kiwa’s KUKreg4 allows you to demonstrate compliance with Regulation 4(1)(a), ensuring your products meet the necessary standards.
Applicable Regulations:
England & Wales: The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999
Scotland: The Water Supply (Water Fittings) (Scotland) Byelaws 2014
Northern Ireland: The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2009
Scope of Application:
These regulations apply to all premises where water is supplied by a water company, from the point of entry into the property (boundary) to its use through plumbing systems or water appliances.
Compliance Responsibility:
Legal duty for compliance falls on all users, owners, or occupiers, as well as anyone installing plumbing equipment, water fittings, and appliances. Water companies are obligated to enforce these laws and inspect new or existing installations to ensure compliance.
