Relevant for companies in the (petro)chemical industry.
Why Functional Safety?
Functional safety is crucial: safety and efficiency are always at stake.
Human ingenuity is powerful, especially in developing new technological applications that we couldn't have dreamed of 50 years ago. However, all these applications come with risks: an airplane may crash, a refinery may face explosion hazards. To keep everything safe, we use safety functions that control the risks. For every risk, we develop a safety function, forming a safety system.
These safety systems are designed to prevent dangerous faults or manage them once they occur. Functional safety helps us build a secure system, even when used incorrectly.
SIL Goes Beyond the (Petro)Chemical Industry
SIL and functional safety extend beyond the (petro)chemical industry. Functional safety is used in process industries, machine safety, pressure equipment (such as boilers), and even in the transportation sector (such as cars and airplanes). It is applied in all modern applications where risks are present.
What Training Courses Do We Offer?
Drawing on Vinçotte's (Member of Kiwa Group) expertise, three modules are provided, each addressing the responsibilities, roles, and interactions of individuals with the life cycle of safety functions:
- Quali-SIL EXP: Operational Manager
- Quali-SIL ING: Functional Safety Engineer
- Quali-SIL IM: Installation or Maintenance Manager
Upon approval of their application, candidates can take the course to expand their competencies and knowledge to a high level. They then participate in the exam to obtain the ""Quali-SIL"" certificate.
The combination of the comprehensive course and the exam ensures that the candidate has acquired sufficient knowledge to perform their role with an impact on the life cycle of the safety system, as required by the standard.
What Are the Benefits of SIL?
SIL goes beyond a risk analysis. It is a (semi-)quantitative way not only to analyze but to fully control a risk. By using multiple independent protection layers in the form of instrumental safety functions, you achieve not only a safe but also a reliable design.
Why Quali-SIL?
- Quali-SIL is a quality system. It's not about certifying hardware and software but certifying people: the backbone of the industry.
- Modules that address both the life cycle of IEC 61511 and the role of an individual.
- A shared quality system, both for Vinçotte and the industry.
