EN 14604 Certification Smoke Alarm Devices

Smoke alarm devices must meet various requirements. Certification against the mandatory European quality standard EN 14604 guarantees, among other things, that the energy supply of the smoke detector is in order, that the smoke detector detects smoke in time and of course that a good sound signal is emitted. As an independent specialist in testing, inspection and certification, Kiwa can help manufacturers to have their products tested against the requirements of EN 14604 and obtain a CPR certificate for them.

Fire prevention remains of vital importance. Early detection can literally make the difference between life and death in the event of a fire. The most important instrument is the smoke detector. With a good smoke alarm device, fire damage to building and property can be limited and perhaps even prevented. And if things really get out of hand, a smoke detector enables the residents to leave the house safely.

Demonstrate quality

The EN 14604 standard specifies requirements, test methods, performance criteria and manufacturer's instructions for smoke alarms that operate using scattered light, transmitted light, or ionization, intended for household or similar residential application. Requirements for smoke alarms suitable for use in leisure accommodation vehicles are also included. The EN 14604 standard is designed to help manufacturers of smoke detectors and combined CO/smoke detectors to demonstrate their products meet relevant quality requirements.

CPR certificate

EN 14604 compliance is mandatory under the Construction Products Regulation for which a CPR certificate can then be issued. More and more, it is mandatory to place multiple smoke detectors in public and private housing, if a smoke detector has a CPR certificate and has been tested according to the EN 14604 standard, this demonstrates that it has been put to the test and complies with the requirements from the standard.
