European and regional regulations impose strict criteria for the production of motorcycles and corresponding components, systems and technical units. From light scooters to speed pedelecs (fast electric bikes) to heavy terrain quads and enduro motorcycles, all two-, three-wheel vehicles and quadricycles of ‘vehicle category L’ which are allowed to be used on public roads are governed by one and the same European regulation.
As a manufacturer you do not only have to meet these requirements, you also have to make sure your production is in accordance with the approved types (see Audit & Certification). In order to prove that you meet the imposed standards, both the vehicle and the production process are subjected to a series of tests/audits. The tests are attended at the testing installations of the manufacturer or at a third-party lab.
What you need to know
Vinçotte’s ‘Motorcycle type approval’ and ‘Category L vehicle type approval’ solutions offer you a total service package, including worst-case meetings, surveillance tests, drawing up official test reports, as well as assistance in the certification process. Our File Management System makes sure that confidential information and certificates are securely shared between the three parties: the manufacturer, the technical department and the authorities.
Who we do it for
Our solutions are designed especially for all manufacturers (Belgian or international) of two- and three-wheel vehicles and category L quadricycles, both for ECWVTA and for type approval of national small series (NSSTA). Producers of vehicle components and technical units subjected to the same legislation can therefore benefit from our solutions, e.g. manufacturers of lighting, rearward visibility devices, audible warning devices, etc.
Relevant legislation and standards
- Regulation EC 168/2013 on the approval and market surveillance of two- and three-wheel vehicles and quadricycles;
- 1958 Agreement of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) – motor vehicles, equipment and components that can be used and added to motor vehicles.
