Five gold, two silver and two bronze medals at World Rowing Cup II: the final test against world’s best before Paris
Eight weeks left until the Kiwa sponsored national rowing team ‘TeamNL Rowing’ will race at the Olympic Summer Games. At the second World Cup in Luzern – the final test against world’s best – the equipe won five gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
The kick-off for the latest medal harvest was given by reigning world champions Veronique Meester and Ymkje Clevering: they once again won gold in the women's pair.
The women's four with Benthe Boonstra, Tinka Offereins, Hermijntje Drenth and Marloes Oldenburg is also on the right track. After a bronze medal at World Cup I, they now took the silver. The men's coxless four could not reach the podium this time and came in sixth.
The Dutch rowing team is currently almost unstoppable in their sculling boats, this time winning gold in both the men's (Simon van Dorp) and women's skiff (Karolien Florijn), the men's double sculls (Stef Broenink and Melvin Twellaar), the men’s quad (Koen Metsemakers, Tone Wieten, Finn Florijn and Lennart van Lierop) and silver in the women's quad (Bente Paulis, Roos de Jong, Tessa Dullemans and Laila Youssifou).
The para double took a bronze medal. The women's double sculls won the B-final and finished seventh after narrowly missing out on the A-final a day earlier.
The Men’s Eight (Holland Acht) concluded the World Cup tournament with a bronze medal, behind Great Britain (1) and the United States (2).
