Road construction materials
Naturally road pavement structure, dike revetment or engineering works need to be safe and it must be possible to use them properly. For that reason the material used in these works need to comply to national and international regulation. At Kiwa we have the expertise and knowledge to test your road construction materials and guide you through the accompanied regulatory landscape.
Construction works will comply with user requirements if the required structural performance and related construction properties are correctly translated into material behaviour and requirements for the material properties. The many material properties can be bundled into the groups:
- mechanical behaviour
- civil engineering durability
- hydraulic behaviour
- processing
- environmental properties.
With laboratory and field testing Kiwa can help you to determine if your material complies to the specific set of rules.
Laboratory testing
Kiwa can determine all relevant properties for all materials in the civil and hydraulic engineering sectors, in our high-tech road construction laboratory. Using electro-hydraulic testing and monitoring equipment, we can conduct tailor-made tests which suits your specific wishes and needs. The laboratories have been accredited by the Dutch Accreditation Council under the numbers L007 for around 80 different tests. We work strictly according to the most recent guidelines and follow the national and international standards.
Field testing
Alongside laboratory tests, we also regularly conduct material tests in the field. Such field tests often require determination of the construction properties as well. Field testing can also comprise sampling of materials, for subsequent study in the laboratory.
